So, you’re visiting our lovely city for the Austin City Limits Music Festival and you happen to lean toward a vegan lifestyle. Maybe you’re thinking that a progressive place like Austin will surely have some awesome vegan restaurants and vegetarian eateries to choose from, right? Well, you’re in luck! Listed below are our quick picks if you want to go vegan or vegetarian for ACL in Austin in order of not so healthy, but delicious, to healthy.
Arlo’s (Red River, N. Campus, E. Austin)- Full on comfort grab and go vegan hand-helds this spot is great for a quick vegan meal After a night of partying you simply can’t go wrong at one of the Arlo’s trucks! Tacos, Chipotle Chik’n sandwich and burgers will satisfy your craving for that straight-up American flavor vibe. Most seating is outdoors on picknic benches and offers little shade so be sure to hit this place up during the morning or evening hours to avoid that Texas Sun.
BBQ Revolution (Webberville Rd.)- Finally! Vegan BBQ. So you’re in Texas for Austin City Limits and you want BBQ. Join the Revolution! Hit the trailer to experience the flavor with Garbonzo Tempeh “Ribs” and No Bull “Brisket” on their all Vegan menu. This spot is an absolute must if your near or around Webberville Rd. Hit it up and let us know what you think of this awesome vegan BBQ. And again, food truck so no ac, picnic table style seating.
The Beer Plant (Terrytown)- These guys are bringing their 100% Plant Based menu to town, and they are the first and only Vegan-Gastro Pub which features a full bar and an intimate dining setting for couples. Their menu includes your typical pub fair including Buffalo cauliflower wings, Hops n’ chips and homemade breads with delicious cheeses. With 40 beers on tap and unique craft brews added weekly it certainly lends itself to a perfect pub vibe featuring live music every Sunday night. Located in Terry Town on the Far West Side of Austin.
Casa De Luz (Toomey Rd.)- The set vegan menu is completely organic, gluten free, oil free, and salt free so if you are adhering to a diet to optimize your health, training for a competition, trying to cure an illness, or just want some tasty plant based fare then Casa De Luz is right for you. They are setup in a cafeteria style self serve with all you can eat soup and salad. Located right near Zilker park but a bit hidden so be sure to call if you get lost.
Citizen Eatery (5011 Burnet Rd.) - Ok, we’re a little biased on this one for obvious reasons but we feel that you will truly love the family friendly environment, well lit work space for the working professionals, and the casual contemporary dinning setting great for bringing friends for brunch get togethers on the weekends.
We have five different made from scratch vegan friendly burgers and sam-mich-es made fresh each week and a ‘hip but not hippie’ atmosphere.
Some of our top picks by our customers:
The Citizen Burger and The Smoked Green Chile Burger:
By far these are our customer fan favorite. If you’re seeking all the satisfaction of a great burger without any of the guilt either of these burgers are for you. If you like spice check out the savory green chili burger cause with a hint of green chili it’s great for anyone that is looking for a little kick. If you’re not a big fan of spicy we’d recommend sticking to the Citizen. You can’t go wrong with the citizen.
BBQ “Pulled Plant” Sandwich:
This sandwich (burger smerger... sandwich and burger same thing...) is for all our Bar-B-Q lovers out there who want a savory succulent mouth watering bbq saucy sandwich with none of the guilt. Delicious BBQ goodness delivered hot and fresh to your mouth. Checkout the site for more details.
For all our Cross-fit fiends and weekend warriors we have a burger that will satisfy your pallet. Perfect for the Paleo diet and packed with protein with all paleo-approved ingredients. Even the bun is grain free! That’s right, a paleo burger without meat. Come get your post workout recovery on and prep for that next Cross-fit games competition.
And of course, if you’re like us, you gotta have your delicious curries. So we thought, why the heck not lets put together a burger that hits home with both American fare and Indian food lovers. We’ve got the one and only Assam Burger featuring delicious Indian curry and spices, made with rice, chickpeas, potato and tomato topped with a delicious vegan aioli. This is a burger you soon won’t forget.
As far as apps go we’ve got you covered there too. All new to the menu are some tasty appetizers including the Citizen Vegan Queso and House Smoked White Bean dip. Check out the menu when you have the chance.
Breakfast we’ve got some great dishes including but not limited to the Vegan Chorizo Omelet with house Salsa Verde (vegan available) and the vegan Bolognese.
And for all our sweet fiends out there we’ve got something for you too. Check out our Chocolate Avocado Mousse and local Sweet Ritual Ice Cream (these guys are killing it!).
What about drinks?!
There’s even the new S’Cream-N-Shot: locally made Sweet Ritual vegan ice cream with bullet Rye Whiskey, maple syrup, cinnamon and a fun surprise when it reaches the table!
If you’re concerned with steering clear of gluten, we’ve got you covered. In fact, our entire menu is gluten free except for our traditional burger buns and wheat toast (gluten free options are available).
And for anyone looking for local draft beers & House made botanical infusions, shrubs and fresh squeezed juices these are part of what makes our Citizen Smart Spirits so enchanting at our full cocktail bar.
Oh, so much to mention we couldn’t fit it all in this little ol’ guide. So if you want to see all the tasty treats we’ve got on the menu head on over to the menu tab to learn more. Otherwise come check us out during ACL fest and be sure to show your wrist band for 10% off your full ticket.
